hello friends!
yesterday was my last day at work and i struggled when it came time to say good-bye and walk out the door.  i will miss all of those boys!  i have photos to share but forgot to download them before jordan took the camera to work today.

and i want to share more book reviews but am not feeling up to writing them today.  so instead i'll leave you with some links.

i couldn't resist this little goose pin from ferdinand (only $4!).  she seems very curious, which is how i prefer my geese.  i am into pins and brooches lately...i think they are a great way to spice up a simple outfit.

i hope you enjoyed the book reviews i posted yesterday.  it seems that many of you like quirky, so today i want to recommend my favorite quirky book i read in the past couple of years:

4. Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami

i love haruki marukami.  he is no doubt one of the best writers of our time.  Kafka  on the Shore is the story of teenage runaway kafka tamura and an old man named nakata who is able to converse with cats.  the tale of the two men start out separate and slowly become intertwined.  the book is surreal and dream-like.  there were many details of the story that lacked a full explanation, but to me this did not matter.  i enjoyed the book because of murakami's exquisite decriptions which allowed me to briefly travel in another world where the lines between reality and fantasy are often blurred.

i also recommend this review of the book written by john updike.  i suggest reading it after you read the book as it contains many details from the story.

old-fashioned sweet

   

this is the little rug jordan and i made for my brother and di.  they seemed to really like it.  that was a relief as we decided to make a new one only a few weeks before the wedding.  we stitched every night for hours.  jordan has since sworn off needlepoint.  i still love the meditative quality of pulling the needle and yarn in and out of the tiny boxes.

thank you again for all of your birthday cheer.  this seems to be one of those years when my birthday gets stretched out.  last night we went out with some ecuadorian friends and celebrated again.  did you know that ecuadorians love whiskey?  a friend of a friend decided to capitalize on this by opening a bar in quito that serves only whiskey and whiskey drinks.  we ended up there last night and since i am not much of a drinker i was a little intimidated by the menu.  but thanks to jordan, i discovered a new favorite drink: the old-fashioned.  whiskey, 7-up, and lime juice.  apparently this version of the drink is known as an old-fashioned sweet.  sweet, but not too sweet.  slightly tart.  only a vague taste of whiskey.  yum.

dear jerk who stole my favorite black jacket at the movies yesterday,

i understand that watching all of the new york city scenes in spiderman 3 may have led you to dream of an all black sophisticated new york-like ensemble, but did you have to take my favorite jacket?  i bought that jacket at a los angeles target several years ago while visiting a good friend.  wearing it brought back happy memories of that trip.  what will wearing it bring you?  memories of taking advantage of a woman who accidentally allowed her coat to fall to the ground?  flashbacks of the woman shivering on her way home? 

there are plenty of other black jackets out there that you could have bought.  all of the examples above are available on ebay and can be shipped worldwide.  you could have bought one of these coats and had it delivered to your front door in quito.

you better be careful where you wear my jacket.  if i see you, i will happily rip it off your back.

hello friends!  i missed you!

we had a fabulous time in argentina.  buenos aires is a great city.  we ate, drank wine, ate, then ate, drank some more wine, and then ate again.  and we shopped.  and walked.  and admired beautiful buildings and even more beautiful locals.  i'll fill you in over the next week or two.

since i left you with a shot of shoes, i return with a shot of the two pairs i bought while away. the black pair were bought at mishka, a shoe store that sells its own line of beautiful handmade shoes.  shoes like these would cost a fortune in new york city.  the purple pair are by hacer pie, a brand pf mostly colorful hippie shoes but also some less-hippie-ish but still colorful wedges.  they may not be tango shoes, but they will still be fun to wear while dancing.
