Here's the latest news from Risaland:
1. Jill is on the cover of the Indypendent . (She's the one in the middle.) She's been actively involved with the NYU grad student strike since before it began several weeks ago. If you want to learn more about the strike and the attempts for the students (and workers!) to convince NYU to recognize and negotiate with their union check out the article or the Nerds on Strike! blog. And if you support the strike and are on the faculty of a university please sign this petition. I did.
2. The lovely Patricia has opened a shop where you can buy some of her lovely prints (see left). And if you like her illustrations you should check out her blog where she not only posts finished drawing but also sketches and other steps along the way.
3. I'm trying to make my creative process more fluid so when I add new pages to my journal. My goal is to spend more time doing and less time thinking. I figure it's the equivalent of a sketchbook, so instead of worrying about polished work, I should just have fun and see where it takes me. To the right is a recent effort at this...I used the front cover of a mini labo notebook I love (but which had seen better days) as my starting point. The girl kind of resembles a Cabbage Patch Kid, which was not my intention. I think I like her anyway.
