i love the idea of something wildly colorful and intentionally imperfect.
below are some vintage examples from ebay that i saved to inpire me. the top one reminds me of a flower or a medical diagram of a cell. looking at it gives me the jitters (in the best way possible).

i think i like her work almost as much as jordan likes the sweater vest which is why i was excited to find this free pattern. (that was a lame tie in but i am excited to make him a vest!)

my a fanciful twist mushrooms arrived this week. they are my favorite new toy. i love moving them around and seeing how they look in different spots in our apartment.
right now they are living on the bookshelf in our main room. i think they like to read almost as much as i do.

the art in the above photo is an original piece by jen corace (top), a postcard advertising a show in soho by josh george (bottom left), and a metal postcard reporduction of a piece by eduardo chillida (bottom right) bought during our honeymoon in spain.
there is a fabulous museum dedicated to chillida's work located a short drive from the city of san sebastian. it consists of an outdoor sculpture garden and an old farmhouse which holds some works on paper and smaller sculptures.
if i could be anywhere right now i might choose to go back to san sebastian, where i could eat fabulous food, drink txakoli (a basque white wine with light bubbles), visit the chillida museum, search out the chillida sculptures above, and maybe find my first wedding ring (which was lost at the beach).
instead, i will go get a haircut.

when considering where to live, you should consider each city's crafty to non-crafty ratio (aka the CNC ratio).
it is quite fun running into talented blog friends like stephanie outside a local fashion market and meeting cool artists like mike, whose work i previously admired on several design blogs.
crafty folks are amazing online, but they are even more awesome in person.

...but i am happy to be surrounded by it again.
1. glass canister with smiley carrots from my grandparent's kitchen that reminds me of all of the macaroni and ketchup lunches i ate there.
2. ceramic lady in an orange dress who was designed to be a drinking cup (flipped over). i haven't found the card with the artist's name yet but i'll post about her when i do.
3. purple tufted chair still surrounded by boxes.
