today i learned how to get rid of toxins caused by spending time with icky people. 

you stand up, and shake your hands, and the toxins start to fall.

then you wrap one hand around a finger of the other hand and pull off the toxins that fell to your hands during the shaking.  repeat for each finger of each hand.

then shake one more time to remove any excess.

the negative energy falls off.

try it.  it works.

dreaming of another weekend like last week...

-sipping txacolina and nibbling on a cheese plate at beatrice & woodsley, a beautiful new restaurant that serves decadent (but pricey!) small plates

  

-walking among inspiring art (including whimsical sculptures by penney bidwell) at a summer festival

-waching a surprisingly entertaing movie

-putting together pieces of a puzzle followed by a sushi dinner

polka dots, ruffles, AND plaid!

isn't it nice when a birthday can last a few weeks?  yesterday, a package arrived from an old friend. (thank you ingrid!)  she may be the world's greatest packer.  she could fit a week's worth of clothes in a sandwich bag.  really!!!

  

-a copy of the new novel written by an old friend's wife (i am very excited to read this book!)

-a new-to-me top she no longer wears and i volunteered to take off her hands.

-amazing scented products from l'occitane (in addition to being a great packer she's got a great nose)

i also love this vintage apron from jillypickle!  she has the best taste.  thank you jill!

cold salad, hot night

last night i made a shrimp & avocado "sushi" salad perfect for a summer night.  it was a slightly altered version of a recipe from my moosewood cookbook and came out delicious.  (see another version of this salad plus recipe here.)  in the middle is rice mixed with carrots, scallion, radish, nori, and rice vinegar.  i also got to use some of my wasabi powder to make a dressing.  have you used wasabi powder?  it's great.

in short...food.

i wrote this really awesome post about food and cooking and great links but typepad decided to delete it TWICE, so my 3rd attempt will be short and sweet.

i wrote about how my friend, steve, sent me the link to a delcious blog, bread and honey, written by two of his adorable friends.  i haven't tried any of the recipes yet but the photos make me drool.

then i wrote about how i decided that at some point in my life i want to dedicate a chunk of time to imporving my culinary skills.  i want to chop, chop, chop up vegetables at lightning speed like they do on tv.

and then i wrote about how jordan is nice enough to ooooh and ahhhhh over the dishes i concoct in our little kitchen.  and how that makes me feel rad.

but it was all written in a slightly more verbose, very much more eloquent manner.

today i will over use parantheses

ahhh...mountains in the spring.

i loved seeing piles of snow hanging on among the blooming flowers.

i loved feeling the warm sun against the back of my neck.  (yes, i wore sunblock to avoid burning!)

today it looks like rain.  (no sunblock needed.)

i'm wearing my new earrings (thank you becks!) in honor of the dark clouds (and also because they rock).

 

rose-colored dreams...

thank you for all the birthday wishes!  vail was incredibly relaxing (photos to come). i beat jordan in scrabble!!!  woo hoo!

he bought me the above painting by mary ann wakeley titled "for when i dream in pink."  (thank you jordan!) we hung it in our bedroom and now i dream in pink every night.  or at least i wish i do.
