i recently started knitting again. my goal is to be able to make cute little baby gifts like the items in this book (which suzy seems to be having luck with) or maybe these cute little shoes. if anyone else has any easy patterns or book suggestions please share!
i also have to learn how to crochet so i can make beautiful things like my buddy, shula:
mym's quilt (with pattern!):
or the infamous wedding jacket:
and then i will improve my knitting until i can make beautiful things like miss ysolda. (follow this link and scroll down to see a pretty pink sweater she is working on...but don't miss the bagels!)
sometimes i spend more time dreaming about what i'd like to make than i do making...
You are doing a great job with your knitting, I'm sure you'll be able to try new patterns in no time! Oh, how I wish I could knit properly and crochet too (so many great things to make out there) :)

i agree with that last statement.....sigh!
that is such a pretty knitted sweater!

Very pretty little sweater! And your kitting is perfectly good enough to follow a pattern with a little technical assistance from time to time.
Our stuff is coming on the 18th of June, and then I'll let you borrow a Debbie Bliss baby knits book that has some sweet and not too hard patterns in it.

Oh, I could spend hours thinking up all the things I want to make, especially when I'm supposed to be working! The worst is when you actually have the time to get creative and you don't know what you want to make!!
Have fun!

That book was great for me, for making the jump from being able to do the basics (knit, purl, bind on/off etc.) to reading patterns fairly confidently. I'm working on this Baby Yoda (http://dogsstealyarn.com/yoda.htm) at the moment, and it's a nice simple pattern too. I'm looking forward to seeing what you make!

Funny, just when I thought I'd never look at knitting again (due to the time commitment vs. sewing or beading), I started lusting after this old pattern in knitty. It's cool how things can become new again--and thank God those skills don't go away!

If I could complete just one in a hundred things I dream up, I would die happy.

I used to be a good knitter when I was in my teens and my favourite patterns were the most complex ones because they were the less monotonous. But I haven't knitted for a long time now. I have some yarn on the needles I started last autumn but it hasn't gone further than 5 cm of knitting done. Sometimes I miss it. I think I need to start knitting again.
and I missed you too :) ... thank you so much for your words.
hugs xxx

Aww, thanks :)
Your knitting looks great, don't be scared to try things that seem hard - they're sometimes much simpler than they look. Feel free to email me if you need someone to answer any questions.

Yay, you're knitting! Can't wait to see what you make. :)

Oh, I wish I could knit and crochet too. I've made two attempts at knitting which ended in a laughing fit. I think I'll just stick to working with paper.

I knit lots of baby things, so check out my blog for some patterns I've liked. I have a couple top-down baby sweaters I like. Right now I'm knitting from Simple Knits for Cherished Babies. I like the look of the stuff. I'll let you know if the patterns are easy to knit.

I love that wedding jacket! Vanessa knows how to crochet really well. You should ask her for tips. She makes these really cute beanie hats with crochet flowers on the side. I am sure you'll be making stuff better than the wedding jacket in no time!!

I don't read blogs for a few days and then you up and start knitting! Love it! Want to know my secret? Kids Knitting by Melanie Fallick. That's what I learned with, then build up to a big, bad reference book like Vogue Knitting.
Better yet, come to SF and we'll knit together!

Stitch N' Bitch is a fun book with entertaining ways of presenting knitting knowledge.
Rowan is nice for classy British dreaming.
Knit on!

I love knitting - and baby things are my passion! I have made a cardigan and a jumper from that book and love the baby shoes!! Last Minute Knitted gifts has some great patterns (though how you'd knit some of them at the last minute or even at the last 8 hours is beyond me!!) Check out the patterns on Knitty.com - you'll get some real inspiration!!

knitting for babies is so satisfying... small and quick and sweet! i really like erika knight's "simple knits for cherished babies." i have made her initial baby blanket a couple of times and it is simple and great. many of the projects are really small gauge but that one (and its matching hat + cardi) are reasonable :)
