i've been feeling kind of stressed and overwhelmed again and to arrive home this afternoon to a package full of beautiful old buttons from dear paula. it was the perfect pick-me-up. thank you paula!
i love buttons. i still have a little yellow cardboard box with a bunny printed on top (i think it was originally a candybox?) filled with buttons that belonged to my grandmother. as a child i loved organizing them and could lose myself for hours in their different shapes, sizes, and colors.
not much as changed. i still love to organize and i still love buttons.
on a different note, after being tagged by both tricia and babelfish, i believe it is time to share 7 random facts/habits about myself. i feel like i did this awhile ago, but it seems enough time has passed to do it again. shall we get started?
1. i cannot go in a car in the morning without eating breakfast or i will feel nauseous and probably throw up. the same thing happens when i try to read in a car.
2. i am related to nathan of nathan's hot dogs. (you know the ones from coney island?) my grandfather used to work at the original stand as a boy.
3. nathan came to the states with my great-grandfather who opened a fish store. i have an axe he used to use in the store. the idea of what was done with the axe is kind of gross but i like the history and the old wood handle so i keep it. it's quite heavy.
4. i like to have all of the bills in my wallet organized by value. single dollars are always in the front. twenties are always in the back. the money must be arranged before going into my wallet even if it mean holding up the line.
5. sometimes i get claustrophobic. sometime during rush hour in new york i had to exit a subway train and relax before i could continue on my trip.
6. when i was 13 my favorite outfit to wear to bar mitzvahs consisted of a gold lame skirt with a matching white sweatshirt covered in gold and silver appliques and accented with rhinestones.
7. besides money, i also like to organize food on the conveyor belt at the supermarket (by food group, size, etc.). i insist on doing this despite that fact that the employees who bag the food always ignore my system and bag the food randomly.
have a great weekend! i'll be back once more before heading off to new york. (for those who don't know, i'm going for my sister's college graduation and my brother's wedding.)
hahahaha, you know, i organize my food too and the employees ignore it as well!!! i mean, i thought it was common sense to put frozen foods together and NOT with items that go in the pantry... i do NOT like my noodle boxes all damp and warped from the frozen food... heheh....
and i keep seeing buttons everywhere! my mom buys a ton at thrift stores- i mean, she has OODLES! and i get to pick from them but now i keep seeing them on peoples blogs too! is that the new thing for 2007, i wonder!

I love the buttons! I often spent hours playing with the buttons in my mum's button box as a child and I now I have my own box - it's not the best as the lid does not stay on but it will do until I find something more suitable!!
I enjoyed your 7 random facts - I can just imagine someone lining up all their food on the conveyor belt - it happened quite often when I worked in a supermarket as a student!

Pretty buttons. And yeah, I have weird organizational twitches, too. The bad part is they come and go...sometimes I mysteriously lose the urge to be anal, so when my organized self kicks back in, it gets very annoyed. Maybe this is how everyone is! I'm also picky about details, but tend to overlook larger details like an unmopped floor or dishes in the sink.

How can buttons take someone's breath away ... but they did mine! The green ones at the top. Maybe you can post a photo of your Grandma's bunny box of buttons sometime - that would be delish!

Many relations, heehee, my mother had a great button-box, too, and I always have serious troubles organizing my food. But only because the vegetables would die before being carried home safely.... Normally I'm more the messie-one...

Well the mail gets to Ecuador quickly. If you posted this on Friday it means that it took only 3 days to arrive. It wasn't the first time it happened, was it? I think the same thing happened last time.
I'm glad you enjoy them...you made me laugh when I saw your last comment on my blog because I already had the intention of sending you a few buttons.
Enjoy!
I like reading your list. Organizing food on the grocery belt!? Sometimes I try to just place things in a way so they fit nice and lovely but when Fernando is with me he always finds a way of scattering things just to annoy me. Mean! :)

Ooh you've just reminded me that I was tagged too... I visited Coney Island once, but it was in winter and everything was closed up, but never-the-less I'm very impressed with your heritage.
