are you sick of peru yet? i hope not because i still have a lot more i want to share...
and today it´s some photos from our visit to the michell alpaca factory. i was particularly inspired by the images of machine after machine completing the same process.
the size and number of machines provided us with a sharp contrast to the many peruvians who complete the whole process by hand...from shearing, to cleaning, to spinning, to plying...while in the factory huge quantities go through each process at a rate so rapid that no human hands could even try to compete.
any of you knitters out there who use alpaca or wool yarn from peru probably have bought yarn made at michell and then sold through another company. and you would probably be jealous to know that we were able to buy bags of 100% alpaca yarn for only a few dollars each through the michell outlet store. (of course, adding in the airfare to peru might make you feel better.)
