we made some friends during our afternoon in boulder (located about 30 minutes north of denver).

my parents' visit was an excuse to leave the city on a snowy day and admire tulips (photos to come later this week) and scultpures while wrapped in scarves and gloves.

the weekend felt short but fun. we ate, played scrabble, walked, ate, learned about colorado cowgirls, shopped, drove around neighborhoods that may become ours, and ate a little more.

today i am homesick for new york.

i need to buy my ticket for a summer visit east.

knitting is more fun with my sister

i wish she didn't have to fly home tonight.

teddy love

P7110753

this is teddy.  when my mother was young, teddy kept her company.  when i was young, she played with me.  she enjoyed borrowing my old dresses, one of which she still likes to wear.  ever since she lost her mouth, teddy doesn't say much.  she never stopped giving great hugs.

and she always looks up at me when i talk to her.

teddy is totally bald except for a few patches of fur, the largest of which is located on her upper left leg.  her back has been stitched to hold in what's left of her stuffing.  some bears might find this photo shocking, but teddy loves her body.  she is not modest.

teddy wanted to appear on my blog ever since she saw shula's teddy.

there are few things as endearing as a well-loved stuffie.

three little horses

some of my favorite books in my picture book collection originally belonged to my mother.  one that is particularly special to her and me is a tall red book about horses illustrated by the dutchman, piet worm (great name!).

i especially enjoy the part of the story when the three horses go into town dressed up as women.  piet perfectly captured the kind of costumes i loved as a child.

i also love my mother's copy of the the steadfast tin soldier.  the inside cover always makes me smile.

p.s. it's really hard to take photos in colorado in november when you work full time.  i miss the ecuadorian sun!
