how can it be wednesday already?

Tvheart

(adorable graffiti spotted around the corner from city, o' city)

where does time go?

we had a wonderful visit with my 2 oldest friends this past weekend and it's wednesday before i have time to post anything about it.

we:

-ate a cheese plate, french toast, cookies, scrambled eggs with veggies, tamales, salami, asparagus, and pancakes with fresh strawberries

-spent more than a couple of hours and dollars at the mall

-admired the mountains during a hike

- chatted, analyzed, giggled, and sang beatles songs

we're going to make it a yearly event.  seattle in 2009!

(more photos to follow later in the week.)

jordan and i are working hard to save, save, save money.  cutting back on our consumption hasn't been too hard.  and it's interesting too.  i find that the less i buy the easier it becomes to distinguish between things i really want and those that are just passing fancies...

one thing that i continue to think about  is an abstract painting to offset some of our more illustration-ish art.  above are some examples of abstract art i admire, but i am looking to learn about other artists.  any suggestions?

we won't buy a big piece until we're settled into a more permanent space.  but i might by myself a little piece as a bday present.

either that or moomin 1 and 2.  moomin is addictive.

happy spring!

Sweeping_2

(big sweep sculpture by cossje van bruggen and claes oldenburg)

i don't like winter.  i feel like an old lady saying it, but i realy could do with out the cold and snow.  the only great thing about winter is watching the happiness on everyone's face when it's over.  today, we passed smile after smile while walking through a newly green park.

there is no time for spring cleaning when it's sunny and warm outside.

sorry floors, you will remain dusty for one more day.

eek!

Mustang_20080212_03

ken hamel of the denver arts blog took this great photo of the SCARY mustang sculpture that was recently installed at the denver international airport.  luis jimenez, the artist who created the 32-foot tall scuplture, was killed in 2006 when a piece of the horse fell on him.

you may be familiar with jimiez's daughter, elisa, who was on the current season of project runway.  other contestants on the show expressed thoughts that elisa might be from another planet and i wonder if it might be the same one as this mustang.  doesn't it look like lasers will being to shoot from his eyes at any moment?

Yeti

thank you megan whitmarsh.  if it wasn't for your art i might not know the definition of a yeti (an abominable snowman).  and if i didn't know what a yeti was, i might not have won scrabble on sunday.  and while winning isn't everything, it sure does feel good.

also, julie morstad has a nice new show.

ya ya chou and the sweater vest

Ram_2

i love these gummybear sculptures by artist ya ya chou.

Chandelier

a gummybear chandelier!

News_porangia_2

i also like ya ya's new series of paintings, more of which can be seen here.

Trust

and the "animal consumed" series is pretty nice too.

i guess i'm an all over ya ya fan.

i think i like her work almost as much as jordan likes the sweater vest which is why i was excited to find this free pattern.  (that was a lame tie in but i am excited to make him a vest!)

mushrooms!!!!!!!!!!!

Shrooms

my a fanciful twist mushrooms arrived this week.  they are my favorite new toy.  i love moving them around and seeing how they look in different spots in our apartment.

Shrooms3_3

right now they are living on the bookshelf in our main room.  i think they like to read almost as much as i do.

vanessa also sent me a packet of her lovely postcards.  thank you vanessa!!!!!!!!

the art in the above photo is an original piece by jen corace (top), a postcard advertising a show in soho by josh george (bottom left), and a metal postcard reporduction of a piece by eduardo chillida (bottom right) bought during our honeymoon in spain.

Galeria_2_01

there is a fabulous museum dedicated to chillida's work located a short drive from the city of san sebastian.  it consists of an outdoor sculpture garden and an old farmhouse which holds some works on paper and smaller sculptures.

Obras_publicas_02

if i could be anywhere right now i might choose to go back to san sebastian, where i could eat fabulous food, drink txakoli (a basque white wine with light bubbles), visit the chillida museum, search out the chillida sculptures above, and maybe find my first wedding ring (which was lost at the beach).

instead, i will go get a haircut.

have a great weekend!

a house, a legend, and a horse-like elephant

Whare

last weekend we finally made it to denver's museum of contemporary art.  i've heard mixed reviews of the museum's new building.  i really liked it.  and the museum in general.  i especially loved the maori art house by rangi kipa

Whare_15_4

i particularly liked how the color popped against the white.

0503_3

my favorite piece, however, was legend, a video installation by artist, candice breitz.  she filmed 30 jamaicans singing the songs on bob marley's legend album.  each person was filmed separately but the videos are all shown together.  the result is fascinating.  i enjoyed hearing how the voices meshed (when we walked into the museum we thought we heard a live choir) and how the participants moved and "interacted" with the others.

overall, i liked how the art in the museum was accessible to folks who like art, but may not have degrees in art history.  i do like to be challenged, but during a recent visit to the new new museum in new york, i found i was challenged to the point of not being able to enjoy many of the pieces for which i wasn't provided an explanation.

Isa_genzken_elefant_2006_2

the exhibit we saw there was called, unmonumental: the object in the 21st century and consisted of sculptures made with found objects.  overall, it was interesting to see how the work in an established and prestigious museum looked a lot like "outsider" art sculpture, providing one more argument for why the term "outsider art" may not be a valid one.  some of the pieces, however, were very difficult to understand.  it's interesting that the photos shown on the museum's website are all of more accessible pieces, such as elefant by isa genzken (above).  this sculpture reminded my mom of a creature in a child's room who comes alive once the lights are turned off.  she was thinking of a horse.  it seems isa was thinking of a pachyderm.

babushka! babooshka!

Coll_lenoxsofadirect_2

i'm not sure i ever showed the couch we ended up getting.  there was a floor model for sale at room & board and it made us open up to the idea of charcoal gray.   the fabric (which is discontinued) has some brown in it, which i think warms it up a bit.  plus, it looks great with our 70s orange velvet chairs.  while in ny next week, i hope to stop by purl to pick out some faric for making pillows and a runner for our coffee table.

Justimage_5

we've also been hanging up a lot of our artwork, including this print i received a few weeks ago from lisa s. (not to be confused with lisa lou s. our buddy from quito).

Babooshka

she also sent some other goodies, including russian chocolate wrapped in an illustration of a baby in a babushka.  thank you lisa!

babooshka (based on the spelling of the kate bush song, i think) also happens to be the name of the place where i'm getting my hair cut today. (woohoo!  otherwise, i'd need to start wearing a babushka.)

and in case you didn't know, in addition to a headscarf tied under one's chin, babushka means grandma in russian.  it can also be used as a term of endearment.  or to refer to mean old ladies who work for the government.

i will share more mail (and maybe vocabulary) later this week.

bad movie, good art

Casey_affleck1_3

i am very thankful for long weekends.  our thanksgiving weekend was relaxing and filled with activities like browsing books, sipping tea, and watching movies.

yesterday, we saw gone baby gone.  a lot of folks loved this movie, but i thought it was terrible.  i like casey afflek and liked his performance as a young detective in south boston.  the plot, however, had too many holes in it and ultimately did not work.  it's difficult to go into details without ruining the movie for those who have not seen it (although i think it was pretty much ruined from the get go) but there were certain issues left unadressed (e.g. social services and the foster care system) and others that seemed forced (a masked detective remy showing up at the bar near the end).

Splurt_3

much much better is the current exhibit by lauri lynnxe murphy at the plastic chapel.  her newest work isn't on her website, but consists of a mixture of mini-collages, paintings, and snow globes filled with seussian-style "plants."

Urbanology1

i love the contraption in the above collage.

have a great week!

i continue to rediscover old treasures every day

Shawn110307_2

yesterday, it was a postcard advertising the daily drawings at partyka by shawn cheng (see above), sara edward-corbett, sean mccarthy, and matt wiegle.

don't miss their catalogue.  i may buy this.

i also rediscovered cameron tiede's sketchbook.

happy friday!

Bzzzzzzzzzzz.......

Ncc_3

Friday night we went to "First Fridays" when many Denver galleries (particularly those along Santa Fe Drive) are open late.  Many of the galleries had special exhibits for Day of the Dead which I will write more about later.

Cc4lg_2 Mcgi3lg

One of my favorite exhibits we saw was a ceramic installation by Rebecca Hutchinson.  I don't have any photos of the specific work we saw, although there were many pieces similar to those in the photo above (right side).    Walking around the long hanging "branches" made me feel like I was a honey bee flying around collecting my nectar.

While part of the power of the installation was viewing all of the pieces together, I would love to see how some of Rebecca's collectors display her work in their homes or businesses.

Il_430xn_11904317_2

thank you ashley!  i love it.

and thank you to everyone for the compliments on our new apartment.  we actually took it because it is a great deal, but the silly little details should make it a fun place to live for a year.

we are going to a wedding in the mountains this weekend and then i start my new job on monday so i may not be around for a few days.  when i do find time to write i should of plenty of news and photos to share.

and because one can never own too many books, here are three from my wishlist:

one good thing about a seemingly never-ending period of transition is a seemingly never-ending rediscovery of objects i've collected.  today it was this postcard sent to me a few years ago by saelee oh.  i love the sprouting potatoes.

who knows what else we will find when we unpack our boxes in a couple of weeks?

a little less exotic

we have started our search for an apartment (we won't seriously be looking to buy until the spring or summer) and the process is amazinly easy compared to new york.  we drive around, find a building we like, call, and most of the time an affordale two bedroom is available.  we hope to be moved into one by early november.

Troysofadiplomatfawnf7  F_10966  Icon_dublin_2 Rochellesofasanmrnochmpges7_2

(couches from l to r: troy from crate & barrel, parcel from design within reach, dublin from room & board, rochelle from crate & barrel)

since we've never actually owned a couch, we are also starting a search for something simple and afforable.  something neutral and versatile, so it will also work in the space we end up buying.

you know your life has become a little less exotic when you go from posting about traversing through the ecuadorian jungle to couch shopping!  :)

besides couches, i've also been thinking about how to frame some of my art collection.  the pieces are leaning up against a wall in my inlaws guest bedroom, and flipping through them every few days makes me smile.  here are three of my favorites (none of which need to be framed):

   Il_430xn_8705662_3

i can imagine these three hanging in the same room as the new couch where i will sit and dream about future trips to south america.

two movies i watched recently...

Glen_hansgard2

1. Once

a low budget movie about a pair of musicians who meet and form a friendship.  she is a czech immigrant making her living through selling flowers and cleaning homes.  he is a street musician who also works in his father's vacuum repair shop.  the two are drawn to each through loneliness and a love for music.  the music is sweet.  the story is touching and real.  i liked it.  you may too.

Aliceneel

2. Alice Neel

a documentary about the artist directed by her grandson, andrew.  she was a great portrait artist and an anti-establishment seeker of fame.  the movie is a little slow at times, but fascinating for anyone interested in art or psychology.  alice's sons are particularly intriguing.  the older one went from living in alice's bohemian home to being a right wing lawyer.  was her rejection of mainstream society worth it since she was successful in the end?  i'm not sure.  check it out.  but not when you're tired.

now i need to find a job in denver...

hello friends!
yesterday was my last day at work and i struggled when it came time to say good-bye and walk out the door.  i will miss all of those boys!  i have photos to share but forgot to download them before jordan took the camera to work today.

thank you for all of your insightful responses to my last post!  i love when people who have found my blog take the time to comment or write me an email telling me they enjoy reading it.  recently, i received an email from the talented new york artist, denise despirito who is interested in spending some time in latin america.  i am happy she wrote me because i was able to discover her beautiful work.  i love all the details and how many pieces are made up of multiple pieces of paper that can be combined differently to create different looks.  this is the kind of art you can stare at for hours.

i also love the work by sarah blohme and the other ladies at lula.

kitty genius

Meshuggah_2

during my trip to new york, i took a quick trip to st. louis for my younger sister´s college graduation.  i really wanted to meet up with miss kitty genius but there just wasn´t enough time to call her.  when i walked into the meshuggah cafe for an iced latte,  however, i did spot a familiar postcard on the fridge (blurry green card on the upper right and below).

Il_430xn_2

it made me feel just a little closer to her.

Dogssm_2

also, matthew rodriguez has what looks like a great new show at motel.  i love the above piece.  i can´t stop looking at it.

little mammals

Cuy

i forgot to share some of the cute animals we saw near the iguazu falls in argentina.  the little rodent above ran around iguazu park with a large posse of friends and family.  he looks sort of like a guinea pig but smaller.  more like a hamster.  or a rat with no tail.

Img_1399

there were also many coatimundis running around.  i love how their tails stick up in the air.

on a completely unrelated note, anyone interested in artists' studios and the artistic process should check out spymart.  only a couple of artists are featured so far but i hear more will be coming soon.

party on a canvas

Popntng

thank you for all the birthday wishes.  and for those of you who weren't sure, it was my birthday yesterday.  we didn't do anything too exciting...just a nice dinner at our favorite local mexican joint (which happens to serve one of the best glasses of lemonade in quito) followed by a movie on dvd.  jordan gave me this party on a canvas painting by ecuadorian artist paula ordonez.  i love it.

and because i promised pedro, here is a photo of me (with j) from the wedding (or at least during pre-wedding photo-taking in battery park):

P1010194

leaving new york was hard.  it is hard to beleve that in six more weeks we will be back in the states for good.

i'd like to cover the world in flowers

Flwrs_2

for some reason this collage fits my mood on this day of mourning for those who were killed in the virginia tech shootings.  i think it's the idea of sprinkling flowers.

i want to participate in the moment of silence at noon, but as i will be alone i am not sure if it will count.

on a different note, does anyone have any advice for how this sculpture could be safely packaged and mailed?

Tender1_2

i was thinking maybe wrapping newspaper around the small parts to hold them in place and then wrapping the whole thing in bubble wrap?  what do you think?

can you believe valeria had emailed me to tell me she wanted to meet up in argentina and give me this laundry lady and i was stupid enough not to check my email?  the generosity of people i've met through blogging helps me remember that there still is a lot of good in this world.

james casebere and lorna simpson

Artwork_images_140199_159080_jame_2

paula's recent post about architectural models reminded me of the artist james casebere who was first introduced to me by my friend and his friend, pedro.  he builds small architectural models and then photographs them.  the models are often flooded, but never inhabited, giving them an eerie quality that draws in the viewer.

Artwork_images_40_156643_jamescaseb

the success of casebere's work also relies heavily on his use of light.  the pieces have a sense of history and one is left wondering who lived and/or used these spaces?  why was it abandoned?

Ls_2

casebere is married to the photographer, lorna simpson who is currently having a retrospective at the whitney.  as one can see from the examples here, race and sexuality are prominent themes in simpson's work.

Artwork_images_182_199326_lornasi_2

spoil me

Home_02

(image above from the beautiful emery et cie website.)

one of my favorite things to do is climb back into bed after taking a shower.  to me, this is a luxurious activity and i instantly feel happy, relaxed, and spoiled.

another thing i enjoy is perusing online shops.  sometimes i let myself linger, looking at my favorite images over and over.  sometimes i splurge on something just because it is pretty. a few of my new favorites include:

-paula's otchi-potchi

-vanessa's a fanciful twist

-jasna's shop

-and of course, emery et cie (how much for everything on the site?)

what do you do to spoil yourself?

i love watching the shadows the clouds cast over the city.

during my last few months in ecuador i am trying to focus on the things i  love about living here.  the mountains, the clouds, the old architecture in the Centro...these are three of the things i will miss.

i spent a lot of time this week thinking about this quote from the Bhagavad Gita (found in the book Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert): "It is better to live your own destiny imperfectly than to live an imitation of somebody else's life with perfection."

and also about dear mati rose who sent me a hilarious esther pearl watson comic, some tea, and two of her fabulous prints.  i especially love this one:

something cute...

Mendedspiderweb19laundry

miss lisa told me about nina katchadourian and here mended spiderwebs series.  i know many of you weren't fond of my spider photos, but i think you would still appreciate nina's art.  afterall, there are only webs in her photos, no actual spiders.

i have more spiders and spider-like creatures i want to share (if you are brave enough to handle it) but i will spare you today.  instead, here is our best monkey photo...it's a squirrel monkey, a very a appropriate name for a small monkey who enjoys jumping from branch to branch, tree to tree.

Monkey_1

i could sit and watch these little acrobats for hours.

we saw four types of monkeys on this trip and they were all adorable.  the largest monkies in this part of the amazon (and maybe in the whole amazon region?) are howler monkeys, who make incredibly loud noises that sound more like a lion than a monkey.  there were many times when we were hiking or taking a canoe ride and we would hear their "growling" off in the distance.

i hope everyone had a nice valentine's day.  i enjoyed decorating cookies with the kids i work with, especially seeing their faces when they walked into the cafeteria and saw all of the candy and other decorating materials set out.  luis asked me if we could decorate cookies everyday.  i wish luis, but someone has to do all the baking...

Art193_artist67_001

remember my post about antique samplers?  i love them and hence i love this nesw painting by esther pearl watson which is part of the premier show at the limited addiction gallery in denver.  the opening show, titled "elevation," includes many, many wondeful pieces, making me think the gallery space must be pretty huge.  i hope the art is displayed in a way that allows one to appreciate all of the different pieces, as with this many it seems there is a potential for some good stuff to be overlooked.

Art263_artist43_001_1 Art142_artist43_001

i love, love, love these paintings by lyle motley, which are also part of the exhibition.  i would love to see these in person.

my parents are coming in today and i may not be around much while they are here. i can't wait to take them to all of my favorite places i've found since they visited last year.  i promise to have some great jungle shots to share once they leave.

february 12th is my new favorite holiday

brwhat's one way to feel  old?  go watch one of your husband's all male basketball games and sit with the wives/girlfriends while working on a needlepoint rug. :)  i went to one of jordan's games last night and despite feeling old it was fun to watch him and the other super nice teachers but on their serious game faces and play.  it's funny how a person who is so gentle and laid back can transform into an aggressive ball player.

besides being a cheerleader yesterday, i was also a little girl on christmas morning.  or at least that's how i felt when i received four packages in one day, two of which were complete surprises. (perhaps they all know the 12th is the anniversary of my first date with jordan?)

Vnsspckg

the incredibly whimsical and funny and sweet vanessa sent me a most beautifully wrapped parcel.  love the dress.  love the striped tights.  love the tea theme.

P1011955

and inside?  treasures i can wear to my next tea party!  i am totally in love with the little purse...thank you vanessa for adding a little sparkle to my life!  i'm already planning my next package for you.

P1011959 P1011957

these photos do not capture the awesomeness of julie's wall jewelry.  the texture is amazing and when i look at it hanging on our bedroom wall it seems to be some sort of lucky amulet from another time.  thank you for the wonderful surprise julie!  (i've heard other bloggers mention finding a long lost twin among their blogging friends.  julie is more like the female version of jordan.  how great is that?)

P1011947

a most delicious smelling soap arrived all the way from norway.  britt-arnhild surprised me with this lovely handmade treat.  the packaging is as beautiful as the soap.  thank you britt!

P1011948

little treats also arrived from yael frankel. yael lives in buenos aires and her creativity makes me excited for my trip there in april.  it seems like a city bubbling with creative juices.

P1011929

while it didn't arrive yesterday, the arrival of marieke's package also felt like a special occasion.  the terrible photo of her print does it no justice.  it is stunning in person.  thank you marieke!  i even like the blue envelope. (why are european stationary supplies so much better than what we can get in the states?  or ecuador?)

thanks again all of you sweet package-sending friends!  you brighten my days.

this is a blog post

often i head to the center where i work thinking i have a great activity planned for my boys.  sometimes, i am right.  sometime, i am wrong, very wrong.

Dscfrontmed_1i was recently inspired by the section of ayun halliday's book, dirty sugar cookies, covering her middle school lunchtime adventures. she mentions playing the, "this is a _______" game and i thought, "what a great idea!.  did you ever play it?  it's hard to explain (especially in spanish).  basically, each player has an object and sings a little song in unison and at the end of the song the object is passed to the person to each player's right.

each person sings:

(to the player to the right): this is a spoon.

(a spoon being the object this player is currently holding.)

(to the player to the left): a what?

(to the right): a spoon.

(to the left): a what?

(to the right): a spoon.

(to the left): oh, a book.

(a book being the next object this player would sing about.)

and then the same song is sung. this time with the book.

Inkywhyeveryone gets into the rythm and the objects can be passed on and on for hours.  or so i thought!  when my kids eventually caught on (which took many versions of me modeling with volunteers, followed by playing in spanish, and then eventually in english) i thought we were all going to have great fun playing and playing and playing.  nope.  in case you were considering trying it with your group of ecuadorian teenage boys, don't!  they love "head, shoulder, knees and toes" but "this is a _________" is BORING.

oh, and if you are interested in ayun's book then you can also check out her food blog.  i like the book, but i like her blog more.  and i like her zine, the east village inky the best (see an example of one of her cute little drawings to the left).  especially now that she lives in my old neighborhood in brooklyn.(although, doesn't everbody these days?)  her zine is full of funny stories and observations about daily life.  yes, ayun is one silly lady but you can be assured that i'm never again playing one of her favorite childhood games with my boys.  sorry ms. halliday.

and on a completely different note: one of my favorite artists, carson ellis, now has her very own blog.

samplers are cute

happy monday folks!  i hope by now you've all recovered from all of the tea party action.  i still can't believe how many of you joined us!

and since i seem to be getting lots of new visitors, i wanted to ask if any of you out there live in denver or colorado?  if so, can you please get in touch with me?  i will be moving there late summer of this year and would like to meet some new people.

when i was home in ny a few weeks ago i read a bunch of my mother's antiques & fine art magazines and was inspired by many forms of antiques.  i plan to share some of these with you over the next few weeks.  one of my main inspirations were the antique samplers, from the late 18th and 19th centuries, particularly those that include people and animals.  i love the idea of art created by girls and young women.

the following sampler, created in 1797 and available through raccoon creek antiques (for a small fortune) is one of my favorites.  i love the washed out colors and i love love the little women.

Ak048_lg

here they are a little bit closer:

Ak048_detaila

what do you think they are doing?  picking fruit?

while most samplers were made in the u.s. and great britain the next example, made in 1820, is actually italian (and available through a dealer specializing in samplers, m. finkel & daughter).

Italian

i adore the woman in the polk dot dress:

a smashing success!

hello friends!  our tea party was a smashing success!  the party went ALL day friday.  thank you everyone who took the time to post or leave a comment!  i spent most of the day yesterday cleaning (thank you paula and jordan)and relaxing and trying to explain the idea of a virtual tea party to some friends who don't blog. :)

frips sent me this lovely print from her "alice series" and i thought it would be perfect way to celebrate the party's success!

there were about 60 people who posted about their time at the party and many, many more who stopped by to say hi.  if i include those who left comments people attended from 19 different countries: australia, belgium, bulgaria, canada, denmark, ecuador, england, finland, france, germany, holland, israel, japan, morocco, norway, portugal, scotland, spain, and from all over the united states.

if i missed you please let me know!

we did have a few stragglers: kajsa, kiwi, and tiffany

i don't know about you, but i'm going to have to take some more time this week to visit some of my new friends!  it was great to meet you all and mingle with some of my old buddies at the same time.  i' m thinking of throwing another party in a few months...something with a different theme.  oh, and there may be a little project to help us all remember this party...i'll let you know about that later this week.:)

thank you

thank you for even more wonderful responses to the tea party!  i can't wait to see you all tomorrow.(and if you missed them, instructions are here.)

today, however, you should all hope on over to paula's blog and tell her how great she is to have sent me a wonderful package (see above) of papers and other crafting supplies for the boys i work with at the residential treatment center.  muchas gracias paula!  i am truly touched by your generosity.

and some links to entertain you...

do you like beer?  then you might want to participate in this project to design a sewn slipcover for a beer bottle.  all submitted designs will be inlcuded in an exhibit at the lakenhal museum in the netherlands.

HAPYY NEW YEAR!

have you seen julie morstad's new website? it rocks.

i adore her work and recently asked her about any small pieces or affordable prints she might have available for purchase.  in case any of you are also interested, this is what she had to say:

ok,here's what i have coming up:
I'm having a show in february at atelier gallery. in it will be 3 different editions of etchings as well as drawings.also in the works: some prints with tiny showcase but i'm not exactly sure when...also i will have a small book of drawings coming out with drawn&quarterly in the new year, but again not sure of the dates. i've got a few other things coming up too...i'm going to try to get a mailing list together or put news on my website or something. i'm technologically challenged, unfortunately.

enjoy the holiday!

share the love

the virtual tea party is on for january 12, 2007.  since we will all be traveling the party will last all day. (one can never drink too much tea or eat too many teacakes.)  at some point on the 12th, all partygoers should post a photo and/or description of what they brought, their favorite tea, or anything else tea related.  once you post let me know and i will add a link to your site to my post.  and of course, since we are all busy with the holidays right now, i will post reminders as we get closer.

i need to start posting about other things besides tea, but first i need to share with you the universal love for a tea party.

and now i will go on a tea pary hiatus until i return from new york.  i will, however, have at least one more non-tea-related post before then.
