Today is my birthday. It´s a beautiful day and I received a whole bunch of birthday wished from friends and family. Thank you! I have to say, that the message are making me a little homesick...I wish I could give everyone a hug in person!
As I mentioned yesterday, we had a great time with Hash and Vanita. I love having visitors because not only do we get to catch up but we often do things that we never do on our own. For example, we climbed up part of the big Basilica in the old part of Quito and took in some of the beautiful views such as this one of the Panecillo:
Panecillo basically means "little bread" and was named because the hill looks like a bun of bread. On top is the huge statue of the Virgen of Quito, one of the main symbols of the city.
We also went up the teleferico, which brings you up the Volcano Pichincha. Riding in the gondola was pretty scary. (You can see Quito in the background.)
The best part of the visit was the time we spent sitting around playing cards and eating yummy meals.
And on a completely different note, as also mentioned yesterday, my mom sent me a beautiful embroidered pillow cover from South Africa.
Isn´t it pretty? Here´s a close-up:
It´s going to hang on a wall in our living room as soon as I figure out the best way to do this without ruining the back fabric so we can use it for its intended purpose later on.
