Chao Chao Año Viejo!

happy new year again!  we had a swell time observing all of the ecuadorian traditions.  jordan and i found the burning of the año viejo particularly therapeutic (& particularly dangerous). here are some photos of some "año viejo"s before being burned:

My favorite part of the tradition is that before burning the año viejo you get the chance to write down any bad things from the past year and then stuff them in with the puppet as a way of saying goodbye and welcoming in the new year.
